"I find
["The Benefits of Breastfeeding"] gives plenty of good information in a very short period
of time. It is a very good promotional video and I think it is best suited for pregnant women and
their partners. I especially like the unequivocal approach that breastfeeding is better, no ifs ands or
buts. This is something that is not always easy to find in breastfeeding videos.
I was very pleased by the emphasis of benefits from the point of view of cognitive development.
This will have an important impact on many segments of our population."

" 'The Benefits of Breastfeeding'
is a valuable tool for promoting breastfeeding among pregnant women
participating in WIC and other MCH programs. Dr. Lawrence provides
families with a perfect blend of scientific facts and personal enthusiasm
about breastfeedings many benefits.
Mothers testimonials reinforce Dr. Lawrence's advice and address the
common myths and barriers that still deter so many women from
breastfeeding. I believe families from a wide range of economic and ethnic
groups will find this video motivational and practical and recommend it
wholeheartedly."

"The Benefits of Breastfeeding" video is a beautiful
presentation of accurate, scientific information along with the warmth and
sincerity of parents' thoughts and feelings. This combination works well
to give an effective introduction to the benefits of breastfeeding and
also some basic techniques that will help a mother get started.
I am proud that La Leche League International had a role in the
development of this video."

* * * "The Benefits of
Breastfeeding"
"There are a lot of reasons to breastfeed; it’s important for
infant bonding; mother’s milk is the most nutritious food; and it’s
quick and convenient. Now comes the strongest statement yet; nursing is
‘more than a lifestyle choice – it’s a lifelong choice for the child’s
development.’
The producers of this program back their claim with long-term studies
in which people breastfed as infants scored at least nine points higher on
IQ tests than their formula-fed peers. Providing a concise overview on the
benefits of breastfeeding for both baby and mother, this excellent tape
answers common questions about nursing problems and issues for working
mothers.
Dr. Ruth Lawrence (herself the mother of NINE breastfed children) and a
national expert on human lactation, lends an air of both medical authority
and grandmotherly warmth to this lively presentation, which combines
pleasant narration with scenes of multicultural mothers and babies. Highly
recommended for both public libraries and medical centers.

| Enthusiastic
testimony by glowing new mothers and scenes of newborns contendedly
nursing are showcased in this comforting production. An interviewed
breastfeeding expert patiently explains health and nutrition benefits for
both the baby and the mom, fields common questions, and offers suggestions
for successful results. Intermixing with smooth voice-over narration and
clear onscreen captions are heartfelt comments by ethnically diverse
nursing mothers who extol such breastfeeding perks as convenience, low
cost, and emotional satisfaction. This slick program presents a convincing
case. –

'The
Benefits of Breastfeeding' is a perfect mix of head and heart,
information and emotion. The natural enthusiasm of the mothers and their
obvious closeness with their babies provide an excellent counterbalance to
Dr. Ruth Lawrence’s authoritative up-to-date medical commentary.
This video is especially ideal during pregnancy in settings such as OB/GYN
and WIC offices and childbirth education classes, when the decision about
breastfeeding is being made. It’s excellent production values enhance
its critical message, and its diversity makes it appropriate for any
region or population. My favorite section is "Common Concerns,"
which masterfully addresses mothers’ primary fears/doubts/questions
about breastfeeding in an easy-to-understand and reassuring way."

| "The
goal of this video is to promote the benefits of breastfeeding, which
are illustrated by Dr. Ruth Lawrence, mothers, partners, and obviously
content nursing infants. The recipe is simple: combine beautiful, happy
babies with confident mothers and complement these dynamic duos with
positive healthcare providers and supportive families to achieve success.
This video will touch many. The level of language varies, yet the
supportive statements are repeated by nursing mothers, experts, the
narrator, and positive images. Even though it is not MTV-style, teens and
single moms will appreciate that the focus is on mothers, not couples.
The video presents more than a dozen babies and mothers of different
cultures and ages. Breastfeeding works in a variety of locations such as
home, work, the hospital and a parked car. Women with varying breast sizes
are pictured feeding healthy and content babies in various nursing holds.
Women have been breastfeeding since the beginning of time, and the
benefits far outweigh any possible advantages of formula. These benefits
are organized into those that are nutritional, for general health, and
maternal. The information is evidence based, and the current American
Academy of Pediatrics statement is highlighted. The conclusion is based on
thousands of studies; the results are overwhelmingly in support of
breastfeeding. The closing affirmations from the mothers are touching and
empowering, and there is a strong ending message: breastfeeding is more
than a lifestyle choice; it is a significant health decision.
The cost and length of the film make it practical for childbirth
classes, breastfeeding classes, and support groups. The positive and
enthusiastic statements made by the mothers make it enjoyable to watch.
The lovable babies are the frosting on the cake!"

"I found this video to be both professional and
heartfelt. New mothers were interviewed, so you hear about what it’s
like right from the source. This video gives major scientific-based
reasons why women should treat breast as best for their babies’ first food
…
This is a wonderful video to show moms-to-be. It is informative and
encouraging. It leaves you satisfied that breast truly is best. It allows
women to feel proud and secure in their ability to provide the perfect food
for their baby."

"This
videotape is appealing for many reasons. Soft directional lighting creates
beautifully molded contours of plumb breastfed babies. Women helping women
is modeled throughout the presentation. Ethnic diversity, and exploration
of frequently-asked questions regarding employment, discomfort, milk
supply, and fathers' involvement make this video a clear winner.
Every breastfeeding support facility should acquire loaner copies so
parents can educate their entire support network prenatally. Families who
are undecided about their infant feeding choice will profit from increased
knowledge; families who know they want to breastfeed will expand their
commitment after viewing this 'Why to' film."

"I thoroughly
enjoyed this new video. It is just what is needed to show to moms in
Childbirth Classes, it is short enough not to take up the entire class,
but it clearly states the benefits of breastfeeding for mom and baby. Dr.
Lawrence clearly speaks her case about the benefits.
New mother interviews and footage of babies nursing are outstanding.
How can any mom decide not to breastfeed after seeing this?
Great price ! Exceptional quality!"

‘The Benefits of Breastfeeding’ is a valuable new tool to
educate expectant women about the many advantages of breastfeeding for
themselves and their infants. The video is 21 minutes in length and
includes segments on health benefits for baby and mother, nutritional
benefits for baby, common questions and keys to successful breastfeeding.
It is a beautiful, concise and clear presentation of accurate
scientific information about breastfeeding presented using commentary by
Dr. Ruth Lawrence and enhanced by interviews with mothers from a variety
of ethnic backgrounds. Mothers’ testimonials are particularly effective
in debunking common myths and discussing perceived barriers to
breastfeeding. Care providers in a variety of Women, Infants and Children
(WIC) and Maternal and Child Health (MCH) settings will find the video
useful in promoting breastfeeding and providing expectant women accurate
information about infant feeding choices."

"For those
educators, doulas or
parents looking for a great, yet inexpensive video to be your
breastfeeding companion I'd highly recommend "The Benefits of
Breastfeeding" by Eagle Video Productions. Dr. Ruth Lawrence and a
host of new parents show you the ins and outs of breastfeeding in a very
logical and caring way.
The biggest draw for me was that the
video really addresses many of the questions that new parents really have
about breastfeeding, rather than skimming over them. What will it be like
to breastfeed? How will I manage to work and breastfeed? How can my
partner help me?
For educators who desire a video for
class this video is short and sweet, with plenty of diversity to appeal to
everyone who might enter your doors. La Leche League International
actually helped develop this video, thus adding to its credibility."

| "Thank
you for producing 'The Benefits of Breastfeeding'. It will be a wonderful
benefit to any family expecting a child. It addresses many important
aspects of breastfeeding but does not gloss over some of the more common
problems. It gives a nice balance of the numerous benefits both from a
factual as well as an emotional perspective. The ethnic mix, involvement
of fathers as well as the visual of the emotional satisfaction of both
mother and baby sum up to make for an outstanding film. I look forward to
using it with my students."
